✰ tin work ✰
My jewelry designs are deliberately created in an asymmetrical and massive style, which defies the traditional polished look of gold and silver pieces. These pieces are made from tin, giving them a unique, authentic, and industrial appearance with organic details.
Thanks to the added silver, they are water-resistant and, with proper care, can last a lifetime. Tin has the advantage of not oxidizing, so it will maintain its beauty for a long time.
How to take care of your tin jewelry?
Tin is a beautiful yet more delicate material – to keep your jewelry shining and happy for as long as possible, show it a bit of love and gentle care:
🔸 Polishing: Tin naturally has a shiny surface, but it can lose its original gloss over time. We recommend gently polishing it from time to time with a soft, non-abrasive jewelry cloth (you'll receive one with your order).
💧 Cleaning: If your piece gets dirty, rinse it with clean lukewarm water – without any soap or chemicals. Then gently dry it with a soft cloth. Never soak it for long periods.
⛔️ Avoid salty/chlorinated water, perfumes and chemicals: Tin can react to such substances – avoid wearing your piece while swimming, in saunas, while working out, or during contact with perfumes and hairsprays.
🌙 Remove before sleeping: While tin is not extremely fragile, its delicate parts (like sharp edges, ornaments, or thin details) can bend or break if not handled gently.
🎁 Storage: Store your piece in a dry place – ideally in a soft pouch or a jewelry box, away from moisture or pressure. (You'll receive a protective pouch with your order.)
The process of tinning is a bit more complex, which is why it takes longer to create. Most designs need to be pre-modeled and allowed to dry for at least one day. After that, we can start applying the thermal tape and smoothing out any imperfections. We also need a liquid that ensures the tin adheres beautifully to the tape.
For tinning, I use a classic soldering iron and a variety of tips, which I switch depending on the design I'm working on. Once the piece is complete, it needs to be polished and smoothed, and if I find any imperfections that I don't like, we go back to the tinning stage. Finally, we apply an antioxidant to prevent the piece from oxidizing. After letting it dry, we wash it in clean water. It's ready to wear.
